When you store bread in the fridge, it dries out the loaf faster which isn’t good unless you are looking to make croutons. So, a best practice would be to take out the bread you know you plan on using within a week and then put the rest in the freezer.
Onions are best left somewhere that is cool and dry. Due to the fact that the fridge is a naturally moist environment, it is not the ideal storage spot for onions. Excess moisture, in fact, can cause onions to become mushy and moldy. Now, once you have cut the onion, you can seal it in a plastic bag and then put it in the fridge.
Determining how to ripen avocados quickly is like a science, however, the first step is to make sure you do not store it in the refrigerator. If you put unripe avocados somewhere cold, they will take much longer to reach their peak flavor. So, rather than putting them in the fridge, put them in a paper bag with an unripe banana. The banana will release ethylene gas which can speed up the ripening of the avocado.
Potatoes are so versatile and there are so many ways to enjoy them, however, you will never get the chance to do so if you store them in the fridge. When potatoes are in the refrigerator, they develop a sweet, gritty flavor due to the cold temperatures causing the starch to break down. So, the best way to store potatoes is by putting them in a well-ventilated container in a cool and dry part of the house. For example, a paper bag or cardboard box would be great.
